Background

Abdullah Al Salem University (AASU) is a newly established government-funded university in Kuwait where the language of instruction is English.

AASU is seeking to hire talented full-time instructors to join the dynamic and fast expanding team and contribute to the continued development of Abdullah Al Salem University as a world-class provision that attracts high-quality students and provides them with an excellent educational experience. The university is accepting applications for these positions for the Fall and Spring of 2024/2025.

Expectations, Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Instructors at the college will be responsible for:

  • Teaching courses as assigned and as necessary.
  • Teach courses at a variety of times and locations in response to institutional needs.
  • Developing, reviewing all aspects related to the academic courses in such a manner that meets all standards of standardized curriculum, is relevant to student needs, and is linked to the mission and vision of AASU.
  • Working collaboratively with the Director and Associate Director of the program to ensure the implementation of the strategic plan and monitor the progress towards these academic goals.
  • Participating in regular staff and faculty meetings.
  • Preparing reports as well as annual accreditation reports.
  • Preparing data on student advancement and feedback, student progress and program fit.
  • Supervising the placement, testing, and evaluation of all students.
  • Identifying needed supplies, textbooks, and materials for the classes.
  • Performing other duties as necessary or assigned.
  • Participating in the assessment and placement of incoming students.
  • Participating in professional development.
  • Participating in activities required to maintain program and college accreditation standards.
  • Learning and applying technologies that support student learning. 
     

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an approved major (Linguistics, Social sciences, Business, English literature, TESOL, education).
  • Master’s degree in TESOL, Linguistics, Creative Writing, Literature or Applied Linguistics (Top 150 universities according to US News or QS or Times higher is preferred). A TEFL/CELTA Certificate and a doctoral degree in one of these fields is preferred.
  • All applicants' degrees must be listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ) or approved by AASU.
  • Minimum of one year of recent experience in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) in an educational institution and demonstrated excellence in teaching.
  • IELTS score of 7.0 or its equivalent is required. However, native English speakers are exempt from this requirement.
  • Strong organizational skills; exceptionally responsive and detail-oriented
  • Ability to be an effective team builder, work both independently and in a team-oriented, and collaborative environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English
  • Experience designing English language curriculum for a university preparatory program.
  • Knowledge of language teaching methods and techniques, educational and pedagogical principles, second language curriculum, assessment, research, English language acquisition, teaching materials, educational technology, English language program accreditation, and educational testing and rating.
  • High level of professionalism and positive attitude.
  • Ability to work under pressure and overtime when needed and adapt to changing priorities and environment as well as willingness to continue learning.
  • Ability to lead in a multicultural, educational environment.
  • Providing a 15-minute demo lesson on a specific topic.
     

Required Documents

  1. Updated curriculum vitae.
  2. Scanned copies of all degrees and transcripts (authenticated copies needed if application is successful).
  3. Equivalency certificates from the Ministry of Higher Education in Kuwait for bachelor’s and master’s degrees obtained from a university other than Kuwait University or approval from AASU (authenticated copies needed if application is successful).
  4. Copy of an official IELTS or TOEFL results not older than 3 years.
  5. Evidence of teaching effectiveness, including the student evaluation records.
  6. Experience letters or certificates.
  7. Names/affiliation and contact details of at least two professional referees.
      

Authenticated copies of all degrees must be provided by shortlisted applicants.
