Background

Digitalization is the process of leveraging digital technologies to transform the business processes and operations of the entire university. It involves using digital technologies to improve efficiency, productivity and create new value propositions. This includes implementing cloud-based software systems to streamline workflows or using data analytics to optimize decision-making processes. Digitalization Manager leads the team that handles the process of using digital technologies to transform various aspects of business units at Abdullah Al Salem University (AASU).

The primary role of the Digitalization Manager at AASU is to provide strategic leadership to all relevant AASU teams, set the technology related strategic plan, align it to the AASU’s plans and goals, execute the approved plans and ensure smooth implementation of IT initiatives.

The Digitalization Manager will closely collaborate with the senior management, academic units and other support units at the university to develop an environment which provides students and faculty with the best learning/teaching experience. The Digitalization Manager will oversee digitization and digitalization projects and technology operations and evaluate their priorities according to goals set by AASU. Providing IT governance and quality assurance is also an essential task of the Digitalization Manager in addition to the implementation of services, policies, and programs throughout AASU.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the Digitalization manager are to supervise and lead the Information Technology Department and its main activities through fulfilling the following duties:

Strategic Planning and Aligning Initiatives

  • Lead and supervise the development of the IT strategic plan and ensure its alignment with AASU’s vision and strategic goals.
  • Design and implement different TEL strategies and infrastructure.
  • Plan and lead the digital transformation projects at the University.
  • Plan for IT governance models at different levels such as ITIL and COBIT.
      

Budgeting and Operational Planning

  • Develop and manage the IT manpower plan.
  • Develop, supervise and monitor the department’s annual budget.
  • Design business continuity plan and eliminate related risks.
  • Analyze business requirements for IT needs and systems.
      

Deploying Computing Infrastructure

Manage and develop the IT sector/department in AASU educational environment through:

  • Computing systems such as SIS, ERP, Portals, and its related components such as storage and database.
  • Networks of different types and their related functions.
  • Classroom technologies.
  • Telecommunications.
  • Ensuring information security, network access control and mitigating risks.
  • Helpdesk operations.
  • E-Learning and LMS.
  • Other academic & support systems.
     

Managing IT Operations

Oversee and manage the different IT operations in a university setting including:

  • Readiness of classroom educational environment.
  • Implementation and maintenance of security measures and protocols across the University.
  • Improving standard IT processes.
  • Establish KPIs within the IT team and the services it provides.
  • Enhancing readiness of university systems.
  • Training faculty members and staff.
  • Planning and implement helpdesk solution.
  • Planning and supervising the implementation of the ERP system.
  • Designing and automating student service processes.

Implementing Classroom Technology  

Manage and supervise implementation and maintenance of classroom technology including:

  • Smartboards & smart classrooms
  • Class management software
  • Projectors
  • Teleconference & virtual presence systems
  • Language labs
  • Computer labs
  • Science & Engineering labs
  • Low-voltage devices

Drafting and Implementing Policies and Procedures

  • Work with the management to develop and enforce IT policies and procedures.
  • Recommend updates to the IT policies and procedures and supervise their implementation and administration.
     

Participating in Committees

  • Participate in IT Committee, Strategic Planning Committee and others as needed.
  • Participate in the university's Manpower Planning Committee and others as needed.
      

Required Qualifications

Academic and Technical Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent with a rating of Very Good or higher.
  • Postgraduate degrees are preferred.
  • Professional certifications are an asset.

  
Professional Experience

  • Minimum of ten years in IT operations.
  • Minimum of three years in a position with similar responsibilities.
  • Diverse experience is preferred, particularly in higher education IT management.

 
Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of emerging technologies in educational sector is a must.
  • Project management.
  • Implementation of ERP systems.
  • Implementation of performance management systems.

  • Analytical skills for operational effectiveness.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong oral & written communication skills.
  • People management skills.
  • Time management skills.
     

Other Requirements

  • All degrees must be from Kuwait University, any private university in Kuwait or any institution accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education or approved by AASU.
  • Kuwaiti nationals, who are subject to the provisions of Law (20) of 2015 regarding national military service, must submit a certificate of performance of active service, or postponement, exception or exemption as applicable.
  • Minimum score of 85% in the oral assessment and other evaluations to be conducted by AASU. 
  • Professional proficiency in Arabic and English.
  • All academic qualifications must be authenticated from relevant authorities approved by AASU.ᅠ
